The Great Pumpkin Race is a fun scenic race that celebrates Fall like no other event I have ever been to. My son and I went last year and loved it! We even dressed up as Things 1 & 2! It had just rained and the trail was really muddy but it was still so much fun and so pretty!
Not only is this race fun, scenic and you get to go through a corn maze but you also get to enjoy the festival when you are finished. The race in Indianapolis was held at Apple Works which is a HUGE apple orchard. My son and I finished in about an hour but he LOVED walking and jogging in the mud and seeing all the pumpkins and apples. He thought the corn maze was fun too but his favorite thing ever was getting a pumpkin when we were done. He was so proud of that pumpkin.
When you register not only do you get to enjoy the race and then afterwards the festival but you also get a lot of awesome things just for signing up and running! Here are thing amazing things you get after the race.
- The Great Pumpkin Run 2014 long sleeve T-shirt
- A custom race bib with chip timing
- Awesome 2014 medal
- A finisher’s pumpkin
- A glass of crisp apple cider
- Post-race Fall Festival on the farm
The apple cider alone is enough incentive. I have never actually liked cider and then I tried Apple Works cider…OMG it was the best thing ever!! The pumpkin was neat too and we decorated them in time for Halloween but that cider…I am so looking forward to that finish line drink of cider. The medals are new this year. My son got one last year because the race people were awesome. We participated in the costume contest. We lost but the staff gave him a medal anyway though I think those were for the Tough Pumpkin. They were so nice.
There are plenty of options for every runner in this race. If you are really fast, love to run and/or are competitive make sure you register as Competitive. The cost is the same but you get to be among the first to run. There is also an option for those who like to run and keep their time but maybe aren’t so competitive. If this is you sign up for 5K Run. Then there is the 5K Walk. This is me and the Gentleman. Mostly because the Gentleman is 5 but also I am not a runner. I LOVE races like this that have time if you want it but allow for those of us who like to enjoy the walk, slight jog, scenery and time with my son.
If you are really wanting to challenge yourself you can sign up for the Tough Pumpkin. Before the race you pay an extra $10 and you get to pick a pumpkin that you then run the ENTIRE race with. If you finish the race with it you get an awesome Tough Pumpkin mason jar! We won’t be doing this one just yet but maybe in a year or two.
There is one new option this year which sounds amazing but not something I think I can do lol. The Hungry Pumpkin is limited to 25 people but sounds delicious. You get to sit at a table in front of EVERY other racer and eat 3 slices of pumpkin pie! Mmmmm….tasty…and filling right before a race. Everything about signing up is the same except you get a special sash to wear during the race. Plus you get to eat 3 slices of pumpkin pie!
If you like Fall, Pumpkins, Races, Cider or even just being outside this is the race for you. Sign up now before the prices go up and you can even save $5 by using this code. GEEKLINGS5 It works for ANY city!
