As you probably know by now we are HUGE fans of GoldieBlox toys. Both of my kids love building and creating then them. GoldieBlox breaks the mold and has created an action figure of Goldie that has nothing to do with dresses, make up or fashion! Finally a toy that shows girls can be engineers or anything besides a princess.
There are not enough dolls that show girls can be anything more than hair dresser, make up artists or princesses. Some to show dolls dressed as Doctors or Veterinarians or maybe even a computer tech, but those are just outfits on a Barbie. I want a doll for my daughter that shows that they can actually DO these jobs. Where are the sets for Computer Tech, or Scientists labs, or Engineers?
Don’t get my wrong my little #Diva loves dressing up as a princess or cheerleader or just to wear fun pretty clothes, but she also loves dressing up as Batman, Iron Man, a doctor or a builder too. Girls, and boys, should not be limited to what society has claimed are their roles. GoldieBlox has not only encouraged girls all over to look more closely at engineering but helped BOTH my kids break gender stereotypes.
My son plays with GoldieBlox. He doesn’t care that some of the parts are purple or pink or that the main character is a girl. In fact he has seen in games, movies and books that women can not only be in charge but do a good job at it. He likes My Little Pony and when another boy told him they were for girls he asked me and my response was this: “If Ponies were just for girls why would they have boy ponies?” So in our house Ponies are for everyone.
GoldieBlox literally breaks the mold in their latest video that introduces us to their new action figure (which my daughter wants very badly for Christmas).
The video is brilliant. See for yourself.
Now here is the info on the doll itself. I am even excited about my kids playing with this one!
“For the first time ever, Goldie comes to life as an action figure! More than just a doll, her articulated shoulders, hips, knees and joints along with specially designed hands and feet are designed for action. With the included construction kit, kids learn how to build Goldie a 13′ zipline and send her soaring!”
She comes with a ZIP LINE! Everyone should have this. Seriously a zip line for an action figure and it’s for girls?! As if it couldn’t get more awesome it also encourages spatial skills, basic engineering principles, and confidence in problem solving. Skills, fun and breaking molds? I’ll be getting this one for sure.
