Every year Indiana (and probably other states) has the State Fair. We went for the first time last year and have been waiting for it to come again ever since. Wonderful food, live music some of the hottest bands, games and rides! There is something for everyone and all ages including Midway’s Kiddie Land Midway! With something for everyone you won’t want to miss the State Fair!

The Indiana State Fair was one of our favorite events of the summer of 2013 and I am sure it will be one our favorites this year as well. The kids were tall enough for every ride they wanted to go on especially in the Kiddie Land Midway area. When they decided to add this section last year (our first year going) it was too perfect. My kids LOVED all the rides and even though I had to go on almost every single one…more than once and that crazy long slide over 7 times…I enjoyed them too.A second time around copy

Most fairs have the standard food, rides, games and fun but what sets the Indiana State Fair apart is the incredible variety of events plus all those things together that make this fair an event for ALL ages. Having younger kids has always made me uncertain off buying tickets for fairs or going to events that are similar. You just never know if you are wasting your money because your kids can’t ride any rides or they get tired too quickly or there isn’t anything to do. This fair is NOT a waste of money even for a 2 year old!

We walked the whole fair but we also took their very worth it tractor rides around. They have stops in every section and you simply hop on at one, pay your fee and you can ride to the next section or all around til that one again. We used this a few times for fun and so the kids wouldn’t get TOO tired. It looks like the Fair has a TON of things planned for this year again. I’ll try to highlight a few.

Food:

For some, fairs are all about the food. While I don’t go JUST for the food I am VERY curious to sample a few things this year. While Cheeseburger Basket on a Stick by Barto’s Catering appeals to my husband I am interested in trying the Fruit Twister Shake-up from Goodwin Family Products sounds wonderful to me. Not sure my kids will like either but they will try an elephant ear this year and might actually like that.

Grilled corn copyConcerts:

At the Coliseum this year there are plenty of concerts and although tickets are separate from that of the Fair they are worth checking out.

Monster Truck Nationals copyAnd so many more! In between the concerts will be other events like livestock shows, Draft horse shows and so many other wonderful events.

Entertainment:

There are SO many events going on this year! I am most excited about the following but I really wish we could go every day to see it all!

Free Entertainment in Dow AgroSciences Celebration Park

Flippenout Extreme Trampoline Show – This sounds awesome!! Trampoline tricks with skis and snowboards, reaching heights of up to 25 feet and synchronized jumping, flipping and bouncing. What isn’t fun about that!!

Freestyle Madness BMX Stunt Show – Solution Action Sports performs 3 times a day and sounds amazing. BMX riders doing 360 flips, handlebar twisting and all kinds of awesome tricks. They will be there Aug 1 – 10.

K9 Crew Trick Dog Show – Dog shows are always fun to watch and this one looks to be pretty fantastic. They will only be there for 4 shows on Aug 11 and 2 more shows on Aug 12.

The Gantry Show – Literally a traveling circus, the Gantry Show features standard circus acts on moving structures! A 22′ high stage-like contraption is driven by pedals..yes pedals. Contortion, trapeze and multiple aerial acts are sure to be quite a sight. Look for them at the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand Side Lot Aug 1 – 12

Free Stage:

The Free Stage has a LOT of performers going on through the fair. A Beatles Tribute Band, Josh Kaufman, Barenaked Ladies and Dustin Lynch just to name a few.

A second time around copyRandom Things:

Selfie Station – At the Coliseum there will be “Selfie Stations” where fairgoers can snap a quick pic of themselves with celebrities at 6 different stations. There will be various (I assume standees) celebrities and athletes from the last 75 years. Fun idea!

Indiana State Fair App Map – Available for iOS and Android phones the app map allows users to see where on the fairgrounds they are and where everything is. This includes food booths and attractions and even parking options! Make sure to download this app ahead of time and have your GPS on at the Fair.

Rides:

Oh the rides! I love Midway rides. When we went last year I was pretty sure we would spend a couple hours and not go on any rides due to my kids being 2 and 4 at the time. I was VERY surprised when I learned while they were too little to go on most of the bigger, faster, scarier rides they were BOTH the right height (with an adult in a lot of cases) for ALL the Kiddie Land Midway rides! ALL of them! When we found that out the whole family got passes for the day.Midway

They had the Giant Slide, Bumble Bees, Wet Boats, Circus Train, and the Kit Flyer just to name a few. A few of the rides are 36 inches to ride alone but the rest are 42 which is fantastic because my daughter is 38 inches so we can ride them with her but my son is 44 and can ride by himself! You won’t want to miss a chance to go on all those ride with your kids so plan on a Wristband day if this is why you go to the fair. Buy yours before July 31st and save! Kiddie Land Midway is located near Gate 6 off of Fall Creek Parkway.

The Indiana State Fair is HUGE but not overwhelmingly so. If you can only go one day I would plan to make it a FULL day and plan out your day as best you can. With program guides and the app map you should have no problem navigating and with those tractor rides and places to sit and enjoy your food you won’t get tired too quickly either. Get your tickets now at local stores to save and don’t forget about Wristband days for Midway Rides! Enjoy the Indiana State Fair. Hope to see you there!
