History Unboxed is a monthly subscription box that brings history right to your door every month! Your first month is a welcome kit which is what this post is about and then every month after that is a new point in history for your kids to learn about and have fun with!

I have only just begun to check out subscription boxes and mostly because we are homeschooling. I was looking for a way to teach my 6 year old son history without just talking about it…because that is boring. I wasn’t sure what to expect with History Unboxed but when we got the Welcome Kit I knew this was a great way to teach him history

It came in a standard shipping box from USPS so nothing fancy there…plus it’s not the most important part. The important stuff is what was inside…which I had no idea what to expect but I was very happy when we opened the box!

2015-06-02 21.14.37-4 copyThe Welcome Kit includes an introductory letter, a comic introducing Zane and Ava and how they found the watch that they use to travel through time, a time line for you to help your child make a timeline of their life, a cardboard binder that you can decorate yourself, a pencil case inside the binder with color pencils and a small paint brush inside, a roll out Timeline poster and Time Capsule kit.

We were super excited to see that! I love time capsules! Somewhere in my childhood backyard is at least one if not 2-3 time capsules I buried…yeah I was THAT kid and yes I forgot about them.

The Time Capsule kit has a weather-proof tube with a screw on lid and a label with everything else inside. They literally gave you everything you need to make your own Time Capsule. Instructions, a permanent marker, the tube of course with label, a sheet of paper to put your child’s hand print on and the paint to use for it, and questions to answer about yourself to include.

You can of course include small items if you want but I think it is mostly to keep a fun record of things in your life right now. The Gentleman added a picture of him and his sister at Halloween when they were Power Rangers and two ants…because he likes bugs. We plan to open it in a year.

My son thought it was the coolest thing ever and my daughter wants to do one..so we are putting together our own set for pretend capsule for her. She doesn’t actually want to bury it…she just wants one to put stuff in to get later but for her that is about 5 minutes after she hides it.

2015-06-02 21.15.00-5 copyThe fact that each box will contain everything you will possibly need for the projects is phenomenal to me. Obviously they can’t include perishable items like food but everything else they do include.

I couldn’t believe it! I didn’t even have to get a marker or anything! They even have Pinterest boards to help those who want explore further on the topic of the month!

That is feature of this subscription that I love the most besides the fact that my son is so interested in history now…that of course is the best feature.

He really does love learning about history now thanks to this and it helped me find a way to explain history. The timeline for his life really helped him understand what history was. I was never great with timelines but my husband was so he helped our son do his own timeline of his life from birth until now.

Each month you will get a box featuring a period in time that will include a sticker for your timeline poster, a craft of some sort and materials about that point in time including a comic to color! They are not in order though so when you sign up you get the Welcome Kit the first month and then your next month is the same as everyone else who subscribed prior to you. They do sell the previous months as single purchase boxes though which is neat…we want to do Egypt.2015-06-03 20.49.38-1 copy

They do have different age subscriptions. This one is for ages 5-9 but there is also one for ages 10 – 15. This features a 13 year old Ava and is designed for your kids to use more independently. It comes with similar things in its welcome kit except of course geared towards 10-15 year olds.

You can choose which subscription you want as well and the price is the same for either subscription.

Monthly:  $19.99 + $7.00 Shipping/ month

Quarterly: 54.99 every 3 months + $18 shipping
Yearly:  $214.89 (that’s one month free!) + $84 shipping

No matter which subscription you choose it will auto renew but can be canceled at any time. Each month you are billed on the first of the month and you can even add a sibling to the plan (which has extra crafts and coloring sheets)at a discounted price with no extra shipping!  My daughter turns 5 this year so I believe this will be necessary.
